Yes, the new “Oreo Loaded” cookies are delicious. They’re Oreos filled with Oreos. But that’s not the point.
This is the most pointlessly derivative flavor Oreo has ever produced. I’ve tried explaining what these cookies are to people and I feel like a conspiracy theorist.
They’re “Loaded.” Loaded with what? Itself, like a bored marketing executive, lost in a carnival mirror maze looking at myriad permutations of their reflection, thinking about their life and concluding that, yes, buying a Cybertruck will fix their internal philosophical quagmire instead of actually going to therapy.
It’s like if “Inception” married a Russian nesting doll and had a baby cookie. It’s a recursive flavor Ouroboros that repurposes itself to create slightly different bastardizations of the same cookie for marketing purposes.
They’ve done this before. The original Oreo-flavored Oreo was the “Cookies & Creme.” After that was the “Most Oreo Oreo,” which is the same concept, just with more filling.
The “Loaded Oreo” is the same idea, just with more filling than “Cookies & Creme” and less than “Most Oreo Oreo.”
How much filling is there? It’s equivilant to a Mega Stuf Oreo, or a “Level 4 Oreo” as I like to call it.
What’s a Level 4 Oreo? Let me explain my system.
Oreo Loaded | Review
I’ve spent 12 years of my professional career reviewing and studying the intricacies of Oreos, which is a truly absurd statement that I have to do some self-reflecting about.
During that time, I’ve deduced that there are five different “Stuf” levels, ranging from “Oreo Thins” to “Most Stuf.” I break them like this.
- Level 1: Oreo Thins
- Level 2: Oreos
- Level 3: Double Stuf Oreos
- Level 4: Mega Stuf Oreos
- Level 5: Most Stuf Oreos
Those are the five different “Stuf” levels you can get for classic-flavored Oreos. They’re pretty clear about what you’re getting. But when you start dealing with other flavors, things can get confusing.
When you get a flavored Oreo, it’s a Level 2/Double Stuf cookie. Those Birthday Cake Oreos? Peanut Butter Oreos? Mint Oreos? Those all have the same amount of filling as a Double Stuf Oreo.
You can tell by the serving size on the label. Normal Oreos are 160 calories for three cookies. Double Stuf are 140 calories for two cookies.
The same logic can be applied to the Mega Stuf/Level 4 cookies. A Mega Stuf Oreo is 180 calories for two cookies, the same as Oreo Loaded.
Is this information useful in your, my or anyone’s life? Absolutely not. But just like me, you’re halfway through this dumb article on the internet trying to hide from the scary realities of the world. Things could be worse.
What do they taste like?
They taste like a normal Oreo, but a little less sweet and with more filling.
There’s more creme in here. But since cookie crumbs are mixed into the filling, the sweetness is dialed down overall, which makes the flavor lean more toward the darker vibes of the chocolate.
You can tell the difference if you eat the creme by itself, which is more palatable here. However, the only people who would try that are maniacs like me who are OK with eating straight sugary Crisco.
It’s weird that adding more Oreo to an Oreo changes the flavor in a direction. But think of it like this. Let’s say you have Buffalo wings with some nice, creamy ranch. If you add Buffalo sauce to the ranch, the whole experience is going to be spicier overall.
So is it any good?
You’re going to make me say it again? Yes.
It’s a dumb marketing ploy that manages to churn out another flavor by changing the flavor/creme ratios by 0.5%.
This cookie tastes good. But that doesn’t mean I have to be happy about it.
