Getting around our city by bus, train, and walking is truly a privilege in this country. I’m proud to be part of an organization that is working hard everyday to improve our system and enhancing the quality of this community. Washington Metropolitan Area Transit Authority (WMATA) released a feature to see your impact and how you use #YourMetro. Thank you to Jordan Pascale and the team for your energy in pulling this off. Below is my 2023 report, and has set the bar for 2024. Let’s go! Check out https://lnkd.in/ezADUDFT to get your report! 🚌❤️🚉

Some ofusonthe OneSTL communications team take transit regularly - but not all of us. Transit isn't always available where we are going, or the added travel timecan betoo great. #DumpthePump Day on June 20is a greattime to try transit, andnew transit riders cansign up for a free transit pass for the month of July here: https://lnkd.in/ghvtnzQW If you wish transit were different in your area, you can join other voices calling for change, like Citizens for Modern Transit. You can alsovoice your support for transit during local planning processes in your area. We need cities that are built for people, not cars. Transit, tree cover, intersection safety, and crosswalk availability all go into creating a walkable city. Safety and availability are often cited as key concerns with transit. What other ways can we help make cities more walkable or encourage mass transit?

“The risk of inaction is just great,” said Erin Aleman, Chicago Metropolitan Agency for Planning executive director. “When we think about the totality of our mobility system is here across the region, making sure that people have opportunities to get to jobs, to visit friends, to educational institutions, having a multimodal network is really important.”Among the key principles that guided the group of civic leaders and stakeholders who worked on the plan along with CMAP staff were making transit more seamless across different modes and agencies; improving the speed and ease of bus travel; better linking Metra and CTA rail lines; and making transit safer and more accessible, both at stations and stops as well as via paratransit. https://lnkd.in/gCdpkyKy

The Red Rose Transit Authority (RRTA) is considering substantial changes to their regional fixed bus routes. In two different scenarios, their existing regional routes could end up being supplemented or even replaced by rideshare services called “microtransit.” If you use the bus system, have a friend who uses the bus system, or would use an app to call for a rideshare service within their service area, please take and share this survey about the proposed route changes. This story map summarizes their plan and includes the survey link at the bottom of the page: https://arcg.is/HH9D90

What impressed me the most when I rode the REM, #Montreal's new driverless metro, is the land and real estate development around its stations, the integration with local bus services and the huge park-and-ride infrastructure. It clearly shows that #publictransport is not just a way to go from A to B but a game changer for the #economy, the #society and the #environment. Thanks Denis Andlauer, ASC and Marc Blanchetfor the guided tour.#TheArtOfPublicTransport

This video does a great job of highlighting the many advantages of BRT (bus rapid transit) as compared to LRT (light rail transit). Well worth a watch![h/t Shaun Tooley, AICP]
